Whalley Bells: 2024 Centenary Project Phase 1

5th July 2024

As per the plan, phase 1 of the 2024 Whalley bell centenary refurbishment project has been completed. The 8 bell installation in the bell chamber at the top of the tower has been stripped down, all wearing parts removed and returned to Nicholson's Engineering for refurbishment. The dismantling work took 4 days of hard work where the bells were lifted off the frame and are now resting on wooden beams to allow the headstocks to be removed and the leather crown pads to be replaced during phase 2 of the work.

Ian, the bell hanger from Nicholson's Engineering managed all the work, assisted by volunteer helpers from our own ringing band together with ringers from other towers. My thanks go to Dave, Ian, Garry and Brian for their invaluable help during phase 1 of the work.

Adrian West: Tower Captain

There is now a wait until September until all parts return and the bell installation will be re-assembled. During this time though, the ringing room will be re-decorated to remove loose plaster and improved lighting installed.
